Sony made the price of the PlayStation 5 on Wednesday evening known: 400 euros for the discless version, and 500 euros for the edition with Blu-ray drive. The new game consoles are available from November 19th.
Despite promises from Sony that pre-ordering would be clearly communicated, a chaotic, virtual run on the first copies of the PS5 took place on Thursday morning.

Bol.com and Media Markt
Bol.com emailed customers just before 8:30 am with the message that they could order both versions of the PS5. All copies were sold out around 9:00 am. Bol.com assures customers who have ordered a PS5, that it will be delivered on November 19. Bol.com will later receive more stock that will be delivered at a later date, when is not yet known.
Media Markt offered customers the option to pre-order from 1 p.m., but was sold out about ten minutes later. Gamers can still go to Media Markt branches to place an order, but receipt on November 19 is not guaranteed.
Incidentally, there is no such guarantee for customers with a successful online order. Media market says that ‘the extradition takes place in chronological order depending on availability’.
Customers receive a call
Game stores Game Mania and Nedgame already took orders before the announcement of the price. Those customers are listed in chronological order and are called by the stores. It will then be discussed, among other things, which details they want and whether they still want to purchase the game console.
Game Mania is temporarily no longer accepting orders online, customers can still discuss options in their local store. Nedgame allows customers to order a PS5 online, but with the explicit delivery only at the beginning of 2021.
Coolblue will wait a while
Coolblue takes it different on, and does not work with pre-orders. On November 18, the day before the release of the PS5, Coolblue will only put its order page online, with current stock. Even then the following applies: the stock is out, the size of the stock is not yet known.
Amazon.nl was also quickly out of stock on Thursday. Wehkamp does not yet know when customers can order the PS5 in advance, Intertoys asks customers to come to the store. So there seems to be an opportunity for gamers who want to get the PlayStation 5 as soon as possible, although the chance is shrinking.

Don’t worry: enough copies
If you can wait a little longer than November 19, don’t worry. There are now more copies of the PS5 than there were seven years ago of the PS4 at launch, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan tells The Washington Post.
In 2013, it sold 1 million copies of the PS4 for the first time, 2.1 million in two weeks. The PlayStation 5 will be above that number, although it is not clear how many.
Some PS5 games cost 80 euros
Games for the PlayStation 5 are at least digitally ten euros more expensive than before. Major new games from Sony’s own studios, such as Demon’s Souls and Destruction All Stars, even receive 80 euros as a suggested retail price.
Web stores have now set the price of PS5 games at 75 euros, which may change. Physical versions of games often go on sale a little earlier.
For the first time, Sony is releasing a version of the PlayStation without a disc tray, leaving players completely dependent on Sony’s own digital store.
Xbox Series X en S
Microsoft will start pre-orders for its new game console next Tuesday Xbox Series X, which costs 500 euros and will be released on 10 November. Microsoft is also launching a diskless version, the Xbox Series S, for 300 euros.
