Playing GTA: San Andreas on a Smart Watch: Is Virtual Reality Next?

The popular part of GTA has been waiting for its launch in virtual reality for two years
Meta has remained steadfastly silent on the matter for now
At the same time, the developer managed to launch the game on a smart watch

Running games on the least likely devices possible is a favorite pastime of experienced programmers. Most often, this is the old game Doom, which enthusiasts port to practically anything that has at least a hint of printed circuit boards. So we can play the iconic shooter, for example, on the small display of a MacBook Pro, a pregnancy test or a light bulb from IKEA. Not only Doom is being ported to devices other than those for which it was originally intended.

GTA: San Andreas can also be run on a smart watch

The founder of Somnium Space, Artur Sychov, is also a talented programmer who does not hesitate to show off his skills. Now, on his profile on the social network X, he published a video in which he managed to launch a fully functional version of the legendary game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. However, not on a console or mobile phone, but on your smart watch. He also connected a miniature controller to them via Bluetooth so that he could control the game at least a little comfortably – it would be too difficult on the miniature display of a smart watch.

For Sychov, it was not just pure DIY, but also the promotion of virtual reality, of which he is a big fan. The company Meta, which produces the virtual reality headset Quest 3, has promised that in 2021 we will be able to play one of the best parts of the GTA series on its device, which is undoubtedly San Andreas. Since this announcement, however, there has been silence on the footpath, and Meta is trying to pretend that she never promised anything like that.

Technical limitations certainly do not prevent GTA: San Andreas from running on virtual reality glasses. After all, if one developer was able to adapt the mobile version of the game for smartwatches in his spare time, the army of developers at Meta’s disposal should easily cope with the task. Why we haven’t seen the 2004 game adapted for modern virtual headsets is a mystery. Hopefully Meta will eventually introduce GTA: San Andreas so players can immerse themselves in Carl Johnson’s story once more.
