Player Agreement Ensures WC Compensation: Updates and Details

Player agreement ensures WC compensation

WELLINGTON. There was no WC match for Hanna Lundkvist.

But the injured right-back, who flew home from New Zealand last night, gets around 155,000 kroner.

However, the reserve Julia Zigiotti Olme had to go home without any bonus.

Hanna Lundkvist was devastated after injuring her ankle so badly that she was forced to leave the WC. However, the 21-year-old championship debutant remained with the team for a week and flew home the night after Sweden’s opener against South Africa.

But she didn’t fly home to Sweden completely out of luck.

Player agreement

A few days ago, the national team announced that they had completed one player contract for the WC players, including regarding the compensation. An agreement that was negotiated between the federation and the players’ association. It states that selected players who are injured before the World Cup must receive 50 percent of the basic premium that players receive for participating in the World Cup.

This means that Lundkvist can credit himself with 15,000 dollars, around 155,000 kroner.

– I don’t think the players think that much about it (compensation) in the situation they’re in. But it’s clear that it makes it easier to get financial compensation when you play in a playoff. It is clear that in Hanna’s case it feels good that she receives part of that compensation. She was enrolled in the squad and unfortunately could not play, and then it feels good that she receives a compensation from the basic premium, says national team manager Marika Domanski-Lyfors.

Third paragraph of the player agreement: “Injured player”

“If a player who has been selected in the World Cup squad (according to the list submitted to FIFA no later than July 10, 2023) is injured during the period from July 10, 2023 until the first group stage match with the penalty that she cannot participate in the World Cup play-offs and replacement players are called up to the squad, the player receives 50 percent of the basic bonus that each of the other players receives as a bonus for participation in the World Cup, i.e. . what is referred to in the Circular as Group Stage under Player player prize money allocation. Replacement players receive full compensation like other players. Players who replace an injured player during an ongoing tournament receive compensation pro rata starting with the match in which the player was part of the squad.”

The reserve without: “Backup”

One who, however, does not get to share in any bonus money is Julia Zigiotti Olme. The midfielder was called in as a reserve due to the uncertainty surrounding Caroline Seger.

– This regulates the agreement for the 23 players who were selected in the World Cup squad. Then there is a clause in the agreement that regulates if any player gets injured in the squad that we submitted on July 10, says Marika Domanski-Lyfors.

Since Zigiotti Olme was never included in the World Cup squad, she is not allowed to take part in the bonus prize awarded by Fifa.

– Unfortunately not. She has been here as a backup, says Domanski Lyfors.

The fact that the players in each team are guaranteed a certain amount depending on how far you go is new for this championship.

– Now it is the case that the players receive a large part in compensation and I think that is good. Fifa has regulated it so that in their circular they have written how much money should go to the players is very important, especially for countries that have not had agreements with their players before, so that the money really goes to the players, says Domanski-Lyfors.
