“Plans for Modern Airport in Narva to Boost Industrial Park and Air Traffic to Finland”

On the outskirts of Narva, they plan to build a modern airport, which is necessary for the development of the industrial park, but also be able to offer permanent air traffic to the south-east of Finland, announced the director of the Narva Industrial Park (IVIA), Vadims Orlov.

Olgin airfield on the outskirts of Narva is currently used by gliders and parachutists, however, a modern airport is planned to be built there in a few years, as IVIA’s business development requires traffic connections.

“Airspace is comparable to access to the Internet, if you have access to the Internet, you can go anywhere in the world,” Orlov said, adding that with a year-round airport, Narva will become an attractive destination for international investments.

The airport is planned to be completed within four years. It is planned that it will mainly serve private planes and corporate flights, although the possibilities of creating regular air traffic between Narva and Kotka in the south-east of Finland, using planes with 10-15 passenger seats, are being evaluated.

The mayor of Narva-Jēsū district, Maksim Ilyin, praised the idea, saying that Finnish tourists often do not go further than Tallinn, but such a connection would increase the interest of both tourists and businessmen in the Narva area.

The construction costs of the runway and the necessary buildings are estimated at four million euros. Detailed planning and analysis of the possibilities for the implementation of runways in Narva and Kotka are being carried out.

In Estonia, in addition to the international airport in Tallinn, there are also regional airports in Tartu, Kuressaare, Kerdl and Pärnu.
