Open the Planet Mojo metaverse from the auto chess game

Mystic Moose, the developer of Planet Mojo, is an independent game studio with a team composed of game industry veterans from LucasArts, EA, Activision and HappyGiant. At the end of 2021, Mystic Moose completed a US$5 million seed round of financing and launched the metaverse platform Planet Mojo; in June 2022, the team released the first trailer of Planet Mojo and revealed that it has received a total of $5 million from Animoca Brands, Courtside Ventures, Alameda, Spartan , Republic, Sfermion, Merit Circle and other partners raised more than $9 million in funding.

When it completed nearly 10 million in financing, Planet Mojo’s first game Mojo Melee had just taken shape. For VCs, in addition to the Mystic Moose team’s rich experience in traditional game development and distribution, building a game metaverse that can be developed in the long term starting from the Auto Chess game is also a plus. Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, the lead investor in the seed round, said, “As a loyal fan of Auto Chess, I am very excited about Planet Mojo and its upcoming blockchain-based Metaverse and Auto Chess games. Very excited.”

Unlike RPG, FPS, Moba and other types of games that have been popular for decades, auto chess games are a new gameplay that has emerged in the past five years. It usually refers to the type of game in which players do not need to manually operate the battle. After arranging their troops, the game characters can randomly and automatically attack on the board and map to compete.

This type of gameplay really became well-known to the public around 2019 after the emergence of “Dota Auto Chess”. This game was developed by the domestic game studio Giant Bird Duoduo based on the DOTA2 arcade custom map. Within a few months, It attracted eight million fans. Major game manufacturers subsequently saw the opportunity and entered the game with their IPs, developing such as the “League of Legends” IP auto-chess “Teamfight Tactics” and the self-developed auto-chess “Dota Underlords” by “DOTA2” developer VALVE. Mojo Melee, built on Polygon, combines the new paradigm of auto-chess games with Web3 games, embarked on an unusual path, and started construction in the crypto bear market.

In September 2022, Mojo Melee began multiple rounds of Pre-Alpha game testing and was open to all players. After nearly a year of development, Mojo Melee launched a public beta version of the browser version of the game in May last year; in August 2023, Mojo Melee was launched on Amazon Prime Gaming and launched a six-month promotion for Prime members. With the launch of the new season, the gameplay and details of the game system have been continuously expanded, and have been fully integrated with Web3. Therefore, Mojo Melee will focus on mobile platforms rather than Steam, which prohibits Web3 integration. Currently, the Android and iOS mobile versions of the game are being tested and are scheduled to be released globally in the first half of 2024.

Like all auto-chess games, the game mechanism of Mojo Melee is simple and easy to learn. It maintains a casual style while also being strategic and competitive.

Before playing the Mojo Melee game, players need to pre-select combat units to form a team, including 1 Mojo, 4 champions and 2 magic stone props. Mojo is the core of the entire ecology. It is a magical creature close to the form of a plant. It is divided into four categories: flowers, leaves, vines, and moss. The champion is a warrior from the Mojo planet tribe. The six professions that have been launched include Saint Knight, Assassin, Warrior, Berserker, Shaman and Priest. Regardless of Mojo or Champion, different categories correspond to different basic attributes and special skills. In addition, magic stones, as special props, can be used to gain benefits for your own combat units, and can also be used to cause damage to the enemy.

At the initial stage of each round, players will receive gold coins to purchase combat units. The latter will be listed in the reserve column and only three are available for selection each round. Players can also spend gold coins to refresh the reserve column to draw three units. a new unit. During matches, players can form and deploy their teams between rounds, placing Mojo and Champions anywhere in their own half. If the same combat unit already exists in the arena, players will upgrade its basic attributes and make its special abilities more powerful after purchasing it again. In battle, Mojo and Champion gain energy by attacking and taking damage. Each character has a special ability that will be used automatically when the energy is full.

Mojo Melee is mainly divided into two game modes: Duel and Brawl. Combat is the same in all modes, with the main differences being the number of players participating in the battle and the winning conditions. In duel mode, two players will engage in one-on-one PK, and the first one to win three rounds out of five rounds will be the winner. This allows gamers to analyze each other’s strategies, learn from each other’s tactics and adjust their battle plans in multiple rounds of duel; the brawl mode requires eight players to participate together and divides the game into two stages. Players will first compete in group matches, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semi-finals, followed by the finals. In this mode, players can continuously compete with multiple players and need to constantly adjust their tactics according to the opponent’s style, which greatly improves the competitiveness and playability of the game.

Game Token Economy: Abandon P2E, Embrace Play to Own

Planet Mojo has a dynamic economy that includes Web2 soft and hard currencies, as well as a planned future launch of the ERC-20 token $MOJO.

  • The $MOJO project serves as a utility token for Planet Mojo and its ecosystem of games, products and experiences, and can be used to launch token-gated products and services. If launched, $MOJO will be distributed through games and $MOJO Sink.

According to the roadmap, Planet Mojo will soon launch the on-chain and in-game avatar system Mojo Maker, which allows users to create content independently and DIY their own Mojo.
