Raków remains undefeated in all competitions since February 13, and thanks to an environmental victory in the backlog over Stal 1-0, he moved up to second place. He accumulated 53 points and is ahead of Pogoń Szczecin by two, which will play on Friday away with the sixth KGHM Zagłębie Lubin.
Last Sunday, the players of the club from Częstochowa, celebrating its 100th anniversary, won the Polish Cup for the first time. Now the charges of coach Marek Papshun are aiming for another historic achievement for them – the vice-championship of the country.
On Monday, however, the task will not be easy. On the other side, there will be a very solid Piast this year (42 points), who will play in the European cups – the new Conference League, if he maintains his fourth position.
It was the closest rival of the Gliwice players, thanks to winning PP and guaranteeing himself a place on the league podium, that made the fourth place ensure passes to UEFA games this season.
The next few teams in the table are also thinking about this goal, incl. fifth Lechia Gdańsk (41), which on Saturday will take up the 12th and already secure Cracovia.
The fight for remaining in the elite is as fierce as for the second and fourth place. Only the last team will be relegated this season, but with two queues before the end of the season, it is still unknown who will be.
On Saturday, closing the table, Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała (24 points) will take on Wisła Płock (29), which is also defending itself against relegation.
However, the penultimate Stal (27) awaits at home on Sunday a competition with a certain championship title Legia (60). The team from Warsaw has “scores” against the Mielec players – they sensationally lost 2: 3 at home in the first round.
– I won’t say that we’re going there to pay back. We just want to play a good game, not to repeat the simple mistakes we made in Warsaw then. It was a painful failure for us. Such matches rarely happen to lose after three penalty shots, but unfortunately it happened to us – recalled Legia coach Czesław Michniewicz.
As he added, the Czech forward Tomas Pekhart, who is close to the crown of the top scorer in the top league (22 goals), will probably not play this season. The Brazilian Luquinhas, who went to his homeland, where his partner is expecting the birth of a child, will certainly be missing.
Looking at the schedule before the season, many fans would probably pay attention to the Saturday match between Wisła Kraków and Lech Poznań. In the past, they were often hits, but in the current edition, both teams have greatly disappointed. “Biała Gwiazda” is 13th out of 30 points, and “Kolejorz” – the last season’s runner-up – has three more and is in the 10th position. Even the victory of one of these teams in the 29th round will not erase the bad impression from recent months.
