JAKARTA – Steps of the TNI Commander General TNI Andika Perkasa allows descendants of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) to enlist as soldiers TNI get appreciation. However, according to the Head of the Center for Intermestic and Diplomatic Engagement (CIDE) Anton Aliabbas, this must be followed by concrete policies.

Anton views that policy making is a form of institutionalization of anti-discrimination attitudes in the environment TNI . “This is important to do in order to avoid any allegations of ‘lip service’ or a mere ad-hoc decision,” said Anton, Sunday (3/4/2022).

Anton considered that there was an impression of discrimination in the rules prohibiting PKI descendants from becoming soldiers. First, there is an over-interpretation of TAP MPRS XXV/1966 regarding the prohibition of the PKI organization and the activities of spreading communism.

Furthermore, discrimination also occurred because prospective soldiers with DI/TII backgrounds, Permesta and other rebel organizations did not receive an over-interpretation like the PKI.

Anton also said that the prohibition of offspring also has the potential to violate human rights and the 1945 Constitution. This is because not all citizens are equal before the law and have the same opportunity to get decent work.

“No human being can choose which family to be born into. Therefore, the step of imposing descendants for the actions of their predecessors does not have a strong legal basis,” he said.

Regarding the issue of the infiltration of communism ideology that may be brought by descendants, Anton said, this is an exaggeration. In this context, according to him, the TNI already has its own mechanism and standard in conducting the selection of recruits for soldiers.
