The stone shines in soft pink, bright pink, deep purple. In addition, turquoise blue waves splash up on the rocks again and again. Truly an eye-catcher! It is not for nothing that the “Pink Caves” are also called “Cotton Candy Caves”.
The natural phenomenon is currently causing numerous Australians to flock to Moonee Beach in the Mumnorah State Conservation Area. It is located in the south-east of the country, about a two-hour drive from Sydney – ideal for a day trip for hiking, walking and photography.
The way to the cotton candy grotto? Not a walk in the park!
The way to the grotto is literally rocky. There are already rocks lurking on the beach, and even at low tide the “Pink Caves” are slippery: Even when the water level is low, the waves hit so high that it can be dangerous to step too far over the slippery ground to the crevice.

Anyone who has arrived there is rewarded with a phenomenal sight. What exactly is behind the natural beauty is unclear, however. It may come from microorganisms that also cause the color of corals. Perhaps mineral deposits are also responsible for the pink wonder of Moonee Beach.
In any case, one thing is certain: the “Pink Caves” are simply amazing!
