Former James Bond Star Praises Cillian Murphy as Potential 007 at Oscar Wilde Awards

LOS ANGELES – Pierce Brosnan, the iconic former James Bond, named Cillian Murphy as a top contender to portray the famous British secret agent at the annual Oscar Wilde awards ceremony held in Los Angeles.
Brosnan expressed his belief in Murphy’s ability to portray the iconic spy, stating, “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond on His Majesty’s Secret Service.” As Brosnan celebrated Irish creative talent at the ceremony, Murphy, the academy award nominee for his starring role in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” stood in attendance at JJ Abrams’s Bad Robot Productions in Santa Monica.
Murphy’s Chance to Shine
Murphy, the favorite in the race for the Best Actor award at the 96th Oscars, shared his sentiments on the Bond rumors, disclosing that he hadn’t heard of them. Additionally, he revealed his carefree approach towards the Academy Awards, stating, “I just want to go in and have a good time.”
The Oscar Wilde awards championed not only Murphy and Brosnan but also other Irish talents, including visual effects supervisor Richie Baneham and actress-comedian Molly Shannon.

Murphy also shared his views on this year’s Oscars contenders, expressing a soft spot for the small movie nominee “Godzilla Minus One.” Amid the talent-filled event, he highlighted “Poor Things” as a breath of fresh air in the filmmaking industry.
Remarkably, “Poor Things,” starring Emma Stone and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, boasts not only Irish producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures but also garnered a record-breaking 11 Oscar nominations as an Irish-produced film.
