Piacolla and South American Rhythms: A Concert of Passionate Emotions

on September 3 at 13 concert hall “Latvija” will perform the third concert “Piacolla and South American Rhythms” of the series “Organ Music on Sundays”, which is popular with listeners, in which Aigars Raumanis (saxophone), Aigars Reinis (organ) and Ernests Mediņš (sitamint instruments) will play the music of the composer Astor Piacolla and South America in an exciting timbral combination .

In the program you will hear music charged with emotions – full of pain, drama and subtle sensuality.

Organist Aigars Reinis and saxophonist Aigars Raumanis, winners of the Grand Music Prize, will play together with one of the brightest Latvian musicians of the new generation – percussionist Ernests Mediņas, and will discover a new sound of South American music by bringing it to life in the staves of the organ, in the sounds of the saxophone, without losing a rhythmic pulse. In contrast to the previous concerts of the “Organ music on Sundays” concert series, which highlighted the values of spiritual music, this concert will develop a completely different mood – temperamental and active.

The central place in the concert program is reserved for the world-famous Argentinian composer and bandoneonist Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) who is called the king of tango. In his music, the artist gives modern features to the usual tango with clearly audible influences of jazz and classical music. From music intended for dancing, Piazzolla transformed tango into music that can be listened to passionately and that reaches to the depths of the heart, thus becoming the initiator of a new stylistic direction – Tango Nuevo.

Among the pieces selected for the concert, Gabriela Ortiz (Gabriela Ortiz (1964)) in her “Estudio Tongolele” flirts with the rhythms of her native Mexico, the composer Jean François (1912-1997) brings to life the dance rhythms of the Northeast Brazilian mood of Baião in his work “Danses exotiques”. The program will include the suite “Scaramouche” (1937) by pianist Darius Milhaud (1892 – 1974) and other pieces filled with powerful energy.

The concert is organized by SIA “Kurzeme Philharmonia”. The event is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the municipality of Ventspils. Tickets can be purchased in the ticket sales network “Bilešu paradīze”.

We would like to inform you that photography and video recording is possible during the event for the needs of the organizer. The obtained materials will be used for publicity purposes of the event, on the website and social network accounts of the “Latvija” concert hall.
