The competition “The most beautiful property of Jūrmala” organized by the local government has ended in Jūrmala, in which 18 properties had been submitted this year, “Tavs Dārzs” found out in the local government. In the opinion of the competition jury, this year seems special in that the presence of the owners themselves with compelling stories about the process of creating and creating the garden is clearly felt in the visited gardens, says the representative of the City Council Inese Krieviņa.

The performance of the contestants – tidy property – is also a source of inspiration for others. It helps to see the beautiful and encourages seafarers to clean up and improve not only their place of residence, but also the urban environment as a whole, making it more beautiful, tidy and brighter.

Every year, the garden entered in the competition is surprised by its performance. “Each property and the created garden is different and stands out with its own – beautifully designed flower beds, perennial trees, shrubs and flower plantations and interesting environmental objects created in the garden. All the gardens have the soul of its creators and could be felt. They are gardens, in which there is a desire to return, “says this year ‘s visit to the beautiful property, the city’ s chief gardener, a member of the jury commission Ingrīda Griķe.

In the group of individual residential houses, a total of 12 properties were evaluated, four of them were awarded the award “The most beautiful property of Jūrmala city in 2020”: the properties of Oksana Romanova, Santas Siliņa, Mārtiņš Drieks and Inese Kokares.

Nine owners were awarded letters of thanks for maintaining a practical and beautiful garden, for a creative approach to creating the landscape of Ķemeri, for investing in the care of their garden and for a good start in creating a beautiful garden.

The Commission welcomed the properties with a well-designed spatial plan: a separate recreation area, a holding area and a children’s play area. The choice of plants in the greenery is well-thought-out and diverse – the gardens are decorated with both perennial flower seedlings cherished from the time of grandmothers, and unusual, exotic shrubs. Many gardens are designed to maintain or slightly adjust the natural terrain and generally give the impression of a natural garden.

Gardens with a noticeable variety of plants stood out among the valued properties, where a small plot of land was overgrown with a plant coveted by the owner. The owners enthusiastically shared stories about each of them. These gardens stand out with their own environmental objects – small works of art – and creatively designed recreation areas. What makes them different and individual is the creativity of the owners: lounge corners inspired by travel, in the garden of the owner of the amber stone house – “sea wolf” – figures made of grass weaves or “arch of happiness” through which each guest enters the house.

The owners of the gardens of private houses submitted for the competition have improved and cleaned not only the territory of their property, but also the adjacent part of the street. The owners of neighboring houses on Dundagas Street shared an interesting story. Both neighbors cultivated and improved their new gardens in the spring of this year, during the pandemic, because the garden has had time and, as the owners themselves said, the ideas for creating plantations have “borrowed” from each other.

In the group of apartment houses, the award was given to the gardeners of the house on Edinburgh Avenue, where, thanks to the initiative of the two apartment owners, nice resting places with gorgeous plants and flower beds and a well-groomed lawn have been created in the yard. A resident of the property on Nometņu Street received a letter of thanks for caring for a gorgeous flower bed near the apartment building.

In the group of Jurmala city municipal institutions and capital companies, the award was received by the pre-school educational institution “Austras koks”. The territory of the institution is landscaped and skilfully tidied, there are self-made environmental objects and a “green class” for children has been created, where they can learn the first skills in growing plants.

In the group of company territories, the honor of the most beautiful property of Jurmala city – the property of SIA “Raina sēta”. The renovated historic wooden buildings are combined with stylistically suitable greenery and a functionally well-thought-out path network.

The letter of thanks for the decoration of the territory with flowering plants has been given to the shopping center “Liedags” – a good example of the fact that it is possible to create tasteful and thoughtful plantings in small areas even in supermarkets.
