Last Saturday, July 18, in honor of Ikšķile’s 835th birthday, two exclusive concerts took place on St. Meinard’s Island.

The composer delighted the audience on Saturday evening Uldis Marhilēvičs, singers Aija Andrejeva a Ivo Fomins, as well as an accompanying group.
A concert on the island is also planned for next summer to make it a good tradition, public relations specialist Una Griškeviča informs the portal “Delfi”.
Ikšķile is one of the oldest inhabited regions of Latvia. Ikšķile became the center of the Livonian diocese in 1185. The monk Meinards became the first bishop of Ikšķile, and under his leadership the center of Catholicism in Latvia. The Roman Catholic Church recognized Meinard as a saint.
