PHOTO AND VIDEO ⟩ During his visit to Daugavpils, the President emphasizes that the Latvian language should be heard more often in the city

The President met with members of the Daugavpils City Council, heads of educational institutions and the management of Daugavpils University. The President also visited the Daugavpils Science High School, where he got acquainted with the learning process and discussed with high school students the role of education in the development of the Latgale region and the significance of the 20th anniversary since Latvia became a member of NATO and the European Union.

“Daugavpils is Latvia. Latgale is Latvia. It was, is and will be. We are united by the Constitution, the national language, the independence of our country and the welfare of society. These are values ​​on which to agree, not to divide. Undoubtedly, there are many challenges and problems to be solved both at the city, regional and national level, but it is essential not to lose the desire of the inhabitants to live and develop in Latvia’s second largest city”, stated the President of the Republic of Daugavpils, Edgars Rinkēvičs, after his visit to the state city of Daugavpils.

During his visit, President E. Rinkēvičs also met with the management and staff of VSIA “Daugavpils psychoneurological hospital” and was introduced to the work in the hospital’s departments. Also, E. Rinkēvičs visited the production plant of SIA “Daugavpils erzebetons”, which is a domestic capital company and a stable employer in the region.

As part of the working visit, the President laid flowers at the memorial site for the soldiers of the Polish Army who fell in the Latvian Freedom Struggle and viewed the exhibitions of the Rothko Museum.

At the end of the visit, the President met and listened to the residents of Daugavpils.
