The Phoenix Suns from the professional basketball league NBA have parted ways with coach Monty Williams after the play-off.
Los Angeles (SID) – The Phoenix Suns from the professional basketball league NBA have parted ways with coach Monty Williams after the play-off. The Arizona team had previously lost the quarter-final series against the Denver Nuggets, led by superstar Nikola Jokic, 4-2. “We are so grateful for what Monty has done,” Suns boss James Jones said in a statement.
Williams (51) has been coaching the Phoenix franchise since 2019 and had led the team around Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to at least the quarterfinals three years in a row. In 2021 the Suns lost the finals against the Milwaukee Bucks, last year they failed as the best team in the main round in the quarterfinals against the Dallas Mavericks.
Williams, who was named coach of the year in 2022, is the third NBA coach to lose his job in just a few weeks, after Nick Nurse with the Toronto Raptors and Mike Budenholzer with the Bucks.
