Phillips Teased About Fat, Guardiola: It’s Funny!

Manchester

Kalvin Phillips fat mocked by fans Chelsea. Pep Guardiola it definitely won’t mentally affect Phillips to get back into top physical shape.

Man City had to spend £42m to bring Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United earlier this season. However, English players are rarely played by Citizens manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola previously revealed the reasons why he rarely played Phillips. Phillips considered that he didn’t have an ideal physique due to his obesity.

Guardiola finally returned to giving playing minutes for the 27-year-old midfielder in the middle of this week. He came on as an 86th-minute substitute as Manchester City won 1-0 at home to Chelsea in the Premier League. Phillips returned to Premier League action following a final appearance in week one against West Ham United.

When entering the field against Chelsea, Phillips became the butt of ridicule from Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fans sing chants calling Phillips fat.

Guardiola responded with ease to the chants of Chelsea fans who mocked Phillips. He thought it was funny.

The Spanish manager is confident this will not mentally affect Phillips to be fit again. Guardiola feels that Phillips’ physical condition is starting to improve, so he chooses to return to play him.

“He wants to change. This could be a good lesson for him in the future. A footballer has to be perfect for 12 months,” Guardiola said quoted by the Guardian.

“Even on vacation it has to be perfect. You have to be ready because this level is very demanding. You have to (can) play three games (a week), you have to be fit. If you’re not fit you’ll be nothing. But then I say Sunday, he ( ha) raised its level.

“He has a sense of humour. It’s fun from the Chelsea fans,” he added.
