Philips is again making major cuts in the organization. Over the next two years, another 6,000 jobs will disappear worldwide, 1,100 of which will be in the Netherlands. The medical technology company announced this with the publication of its annual figures.

The company suffered a loss of 1.6 billion euros last year. The new round of layoffs comes on top of that of October last year. At that time, 4000 jobs were already being cut worldwide, of which 800 in the Netherlands. This means that 1100 jobs will now be added in the Netherlands.

With this new announcement, the company is now cutting 10,000 jobs. The company now employs approximately 80,000 people, 11,000 of whom work in the Netherlands.

Recall

This reorganization is necessary to reduce costs, the company says. The new CEO Roy Jakobs had only been in his post for nine days in October when the layoffs were announced.

Philips is facing major problems, especially due to the major recall of apnea devices. Millions of devices have to be recalled and replaced worldwide due to detachable foam particles that are potentially harmful to health. That costs the company a lot of money.

Philips wrote earlier this year 1.3 billion euros on that business unit because of a possible settlement with US authorities about those problems.
