Philippe Geubels underwent eye surgery and no longer needs glasses: “I’ve wanted it for a long time” | showbiz

tvA bald head and glasses. Those two external characteristics have characterized Philippe Geubels (40) throughout his career. But actually, the comedian no longer needs his signature glasses. Geubels underwent eye surgery so that he no longer has to wear glasses. “The fact that everyone knows me with glasses held me back for a long time,” he says in Alex Agnew’s podcast.

The operation is not a laser operation, as Yves Leterme once underwent, but Geubels was given lens implants. An artificial lens, with the correct correction, is placed in front of your natural eye lens. A minor operation that takes about six minutes per eye.

“I’ve wanted it for a long time,” says Geubels at the table with Alex Agnew and his co-host Andries Beckers. “To start with, I really couldn’t see well without glasses. I had a deviation of -6 and -7. In addition, glasses are also not useful when you go swimming, when wearing a mouth mask or when you go in from outside in the winter because the glasses then fog up.” And then there’s the sex, says Geubels. “You always have to choose: do I poop with glasses or do I not see them. I’ve been married for twenty years, so I’m doing it without glasses (hilarity).”

Add colour

There are reasons why Geubels waited until he was forty to undergo surgery. “You have the public aspect,” he says. “Everyone knows me with glasses. Besides, my glasses are the only thing that colored my head.” Still, the comedian is happy with his decision. To see optimally is a revelation. “Immediately after the operation, my eyes were still a bit sore, but in the evening I could just watch television without glasses. Getting up the next morning and being able to see so well is simply blissful.”

Geubels can currently be seen, with glasses, in the second season of ‘Taboo’. Watch the whole conversation of Geubels in ‘Welcome To The AA’ here.
