After yesterday’s ninth place, Philipp Aschenwald has another top 10 result in ski jumping in Wisla (POL) on Sunday achieved. The Tyrolean finished sixth in the second and last Grand Prix competition this summer. With Daniel Huber in eighth place and 18-year-old debutant David Haagen in tenth place, a total of three Austrians ended up among the top ten athletes of the day.

Once again the hosts jumped in a different league. After the quadruple triumph on Saturday, Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch and Piotr Zyla followed up with a triple win for Poland on Sunday.

The Austrian team clearly improved compared to the previous day. In addition to the three top 10 places, Jan Hörl (16th) and Gregor Schlierenzauer (21st) also managed to improve. Overall World Cup winner Stefan Kraft and veteran Michael Hayböck had not come to the Polish summer competition.

Philipp Aschenwald: “Two times in the top 10, I’m already satisfied. The jumps today weren’t quite at the best level I could have. But it’s still consistent in terms of placement. That is very promising for the future. ”

David Haagen: “I came here with the aim of scoring points. I am of course more than satisfied with the top 10 result. I knew I was in a pretty good mood right now. The first jumps with the very best are definitely a challenge. ”

Head coach Andreas Widhölzl: “You have already noticed that this competitive situation does something with the athletes. After the long training phase, it was cool and refreshing. We certainly still have a lot of potential and room for improvement. But with the increase to yesterday we did well. ”
