“Phil Spencer Talks Redfall and Improving Xbox Games: Latest Podcast Recap”

It was in the most recent podcast no Kinda Funny Games that Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, talked about the latest release from Microsoft in-house studios, Redfall from Arkane Studios.

In Spencer’s statements, he states that he assumes all responsibilities and that Microsoft is committed to improving its games over time, noting that Arkane Austin is already working in that direction in relation to Redfall. Proof of this is that the much-desired 60fps mode is on its way to Xbox Series X|S consoles and it shouldn’t be long before it becomes available.

“There is nothing more difficult for me than to let the Xbox company down. Just the fact that to see the community lose trust and become disillusioned leaves me disillusioned. I’m annoyed with myself, which makes me review our process. I remember the 60 frames per second announcement, but then we weren’t delivering games at 60 frames per second and that was kind of a punch in the face, and rightly so, a few weeks ago.”

“The response from the critics wasn’t what we wanted. I’m going to reflect and think: what can we learn, what can we do better? One thing I’m going to fight is what went wrong. There are clearly things we can do in terms of quality and execution , but one thing I’m not going to do is thwart the creative aspirations of our teams. I’m a huge supporter of Arkane Austin. Their track record is fantastic. I love many of the games they’ve created. This is a game where the team did not reach its own goals internals when it was released. I think it’s perhaps a little simplistic to say that if they had pushed back three months, the creative core of the game would have been different than it was.”

“The Arkane team is getting the feedback they need in the short term. We’re still working on 60 frames per second, we have a good schedule for that. We’re committed to doing that. We’ll keep working on the game. I think we’ve shown a commitment to games like Sea of Thieves and Grounded to continue to build games. I also know these games are $70 and I take full responsibility for releasing a game that needs to be great.”

Our Redfall review is almost ready, it will be available for you very soon. Be aware.
