Phil Hellmuth with record losses

On Monday night, Hellmuth played $100/$200 no-limit hold’em at Hustler Casino Live with poker pro Alan Keating and fellow billionaires Chamath Palihaptiya and Stanley Tang, among others. At the end of the five hour session, Hellmuth tweeted that he had lost $144,500. More than at a live stream or TV poker show in over ten years.

Just one day later he was a guest at “Live at the Bike” at the famous Parkwest Bicycle Casino aka The Bike in Los Angeles. The line-up here included Robbie Jade Lew, Matt Berkey and Eric Hicks, playing $100/$200 with a $400 straddle.

Hellmuth didn’t do too much right from the start, and after less than three hours of play he stormed out of the poker room with a record loss of $195,000 without comment. It was triggered by a hand against Hicks when he lost a $285,500 pot with K♥K♣ on 9♦10♦3♦8♥4♦ against A♦K♦ for the nut flush.

It took half an hour before the 58-year-old got himself under control, returned to the table and shook hands with his fellow players. However, he canceled the sessions that had already been promised for Wednesday and Thursday.

This, in turn, caused frustration for YouTuber and GGPoker Ambassador Kevin Martin, who had flown to Los Angeles at Hellmuth’s invitation to play against his idol in Wednesday’s session. Martin ended a post on Twitter with: “Big fucking L for you @phil_hellmuth”.

But here Hellmuth showed that he is actually a very sociable guy with a lot of heart. The Poker Brat immediately apologized to Martin, promised to cover his travel expenses and also offered to catch up on a two-day live stream. Things got even better for Marin, who played the session on “Live at the Bike” without Hellmuth and won $71,000.
