Mexico City.- The American pharmaceutical company Pfizer wants to market its vaccine against Covid-19 in the Mexican private market, in such a way that the population can have access to it, regardless of the vaccination campaigns organized by the federal government.

For this, Pfizer has already started the administrative process before the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) with the aim of obtaining the permanent sanitary registry that would allow the direct commercialization of the vaccine.

“Right now we are in the process (of the sanitary registration); we are waiting for the decision,” revealed Constanza Losada, president and CEO of Pfizer Mexico, in a meeting with the media.

Losada said that Pfizer’s Covid vaccine, like all vaccines against said disease developed by other laboratories, have authorization for emergency use, so only the federal government can purchase and import it.

Around 41 million Mexicans have been immunized against Covid-19 with the Pfizer vaccine. Until now, the pharmaceutical company has not signed contracts to bring more doses to the country and the last purchases made by the Government have already been delivered.

Additionally, in August of last year, the company brought its Paxlovid treatment to the country, which is supplied to Covid patients with vulnerable health.

Although the purchase of medicines and vaccines by the Mexican government has been of great importance for Pfizer, especially during the pandemic years, the company continues to bet on the private market.

In fact, this year the company will introduce eight new therapies in Mexico, completing and even exceeding its goal set in 2020, when it promised to bring 25 new drugs to the country in five years.

“The number now rises to 30 new drugs by 2025,” Losada said.

Among the new treatments are drugs for atopic dermatitis, cardiomyopathy due to amyloidosis, migraine and different types of cancer, such as colorectal, lung and leukemia.
