After the end of his career, he is now fulfilling another childhood dream when he took up hockey. And that Cech is good at it is also proven by his current engagement in Belfast.
“I wasn’t nervous because I played a lot of important matches during my career. A person finds himself in such situations, so he takes advantage of it now. In addition, I trained with the team for two weeks, I felt well prepared, I also have experience from hockey matches, so I knew I could handle the end,” said Čech in an interview given to the media by his representative agency Sport Invest.

The debut came five minutes before the end of Saturday’s game, when Belfast’s number one Tyler Beskorowany gave him a place in the goal at 5-1. And Čech was greeted by thunderous applause from the audience when he arrived from the changing room.
“Of course I enjoyed my debut, but going into a match like this at the end, when you’re standing on the bench the whole time, it’s not ideal. I’m glad it happened because it’s a hugely special moment for me that I’ll remember. When I returned to hockey, I didn’t think I would be able to do this. So it’s a moment I’ll always remember. And the chanting of the fans? This makes every athlete happy when they hear the support,” said Čech.
His phone was full of reactions and congratulations after the game, but he was pleased to see Belfast take the full six points at the weekend. And what will Cech’s hockey future be now? Will he stay in the top flight or return to second division Oxford? “We will see how the situation develops in the next few days and we will deal with it accordingly as before,” said Čech.
