According to the program director of RTL, this is mainly because we have started looking at the theme of losing weight differently. According to Peter, the program therefore does not fit well with this zeitgeist. “Well made as it is. It’s beautiful television.”

Obese is presented by Angela Groothuizen. Should she be worried about her job now? “Angela is very realistic about those things, you can have good conversations with it. It is also good to have such discussions with each other. We are constantly learning, of course.”
The program started again last week. Peter explains: “You order that a year in advance.” We don’t have to expect a new season soon.
However, a spokesperson for RTL says that no decision has yet been taken: “The bullet is not through the church; we are waiting this season of Obese off. We are, however, looking at other formats around this theme and are also aware of body positivity. Obese is and will remain beautiful television, but after this series we will see whether this program is still relevant and whether it fits the current zeitgeist. We can therefore not yet confirm whether Obese is going to stop. “

RTL is also taking a different path. For example, we are working on a new Videoland program with Miljuschka Witzenhausen about body positivity. “There the theme is dealt with in a completely different way. A way that is much better suited to our time.”
