Peter Marshall (56) from Connecticut in the USA has been proven Alzheimer’s disease. A form of dementia that usually affects people in their 60s and up, but a few get the disease at an earlier age.
Peter is married to his wife Lisa (54), who says that it was heartbreaking to receive the message that her husband had been affected by dementia.
– Horrible
– It has been horrible, but I have done my best to be positive and focus on taking one day at a time. My mantra has always been to never regret anything, Lisa says Washington Post.
In January, Peter’s condition began to deteriorate rapidly. Lisa tried to make the best of it, and one day the couple was watching a wedding scene on TV, Peter asked if she wanted to marry him.
Lisa answered yes, and hoped that Peter would remember the proposal the next day.
He did not. He also did not remember their first wedding.
– For the last six months, he has really only looked at me as his favorite nurse, says Lisa.

Warm-hearted wedding
Lisa was aware that Peter would soon no longer remember her. She decided to take him at his word and began organizing their second wedding.
She spoke to her daughter, Sarah Brehant, who works as wedding planner. The daughter and son-in-law, Dan Brehant, said they could organize the entire wedding for them. They contacted a number of small businesses for help organizing the wedding over the course of six weeks.
Everyone volunteered to help, for free.
