Petar Vitanov: Cornelia Ninova’s words about arms for Ukraine were outrageous – 2024-02-12 18:13:44

/ world today news/ With their positions, the Bulgarian MEPs from the BSP often incurred the wrath of their fellow socialists in Europe. This is how Petar Vitanov, head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament, commented on the accusations of Cornelia Ninova, who told BTV yesterday: “our MEPs are obedient and do what Europe tells them”.

“Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Of course, we MEPs are not “obedients”. Listeners are the ones who stayed around her. With our positions, we have often incurred the wrath of our political family partners,” commented Petar Vitanov.

Vitanov also explained why he and the MEPs Sergey Stanishev, Ivo Hristov and Elena Yoncheva came out with a declaration indicating that Kornelia Ninova was making false suggestions.

“What was outrageous was yesterday’s words related to the provision of arms. It is the height of cynicism for the economy minister in a government that boasted of providing armaments, during whose tenure exports to countries very close to Ukraine saw record growth, to point the finger at those who we have repeatedly emphasized that a decision with weapons of this military conflict there can be no. And with our vote in the European Parliament, we proved it,” Vitanov added.

“Even after the counter-offensive, it was clear, including here in the European Parliament, that a military solution could not be reached. Two years later, we are no closer to peace. Therefore, a number of initiatives are currently being made, including those arising from European leaders, to search for a political solution to this conflict,” the MEP also said.

Petar Vitanov is adamant that he has no ambitions for the BSP lists.

“We are people with dignity. We have diametrically opposed understandings about the future of the BSP. It became clear from yesterday’s statement that Mrs. Ninova intends to run for a third term as head of the BSP, which means liquidating the party. The people she’s surrounded herself with are virtuoso oilers, so obviously we don’t have a place there,” he added.

The MEP also commented on his expulsion from the BSP a year ago.

“I cannot say whether I am part of the BSP, because de facto I am not, but de jure I am. With our names, the leadership goes and registers the lists of elections. If you’re asking the court, I’m part of the leadership. And these changes were not filed because we were excluded against the rules and the court would not accept this decision. And this is the reason why they hang in the legal peace”, commented Petar Vitanov.

Vitanov also made a forecast for the next elections.

“The problem is that there is no party left. Acting like Moroccan locusts, the structures represent hollow entities. The narrow leadership relies on the nostalgia of a group of elderly people, chases “genders” all day and is unable to attract young members and sympathizers. I can say with pain that leftist people will have no one to vote for,” he added.
