Performance Testing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart vs. Remnant 2 on Steam Deck

Digital Foundry expert Oliver McKenzie decided to test Remnant 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on the portable Steam Deck. The latter proved to be worthy, but the shooter Gunfire Games – not really.

According to Mackenzie, Insomniac Games feels good with XeSS or FSR enabled on the Performance presets, and the graphical settings don’t require noticeable intervention.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is quite capable of 30-40 FPS on Steam Deck, and even 60 FPS in the simplest situations. Portal transitions take 4-5 seconds because the Valve console has insufficient CPU and SSD power.

Remnant 2, on the other hand, needs FSR or XeSS to work satisfactorily on Steam Deck, but the first one does not produce a good picture quality in motion. Performance is uneven – 30-40 FPS in quiet scenes, dropping to 25 FPS in busy + online.

Mackenzie believes that Remnant 2 does not yet deserve a Steam Deck verification plate, despite having one. DF expert recommends playing the shooter on more powerful hardware.
