‘People with disabilities should also be able to easily get beer at the festival’

More and more festivals in the Netherlands are making adjustments to make it easier for people with disabilities to attend the festival. For example, the HandicapNL foundation recently made agreements with the organization of the Concert at Sea festival on the Brouwersdam in Zeeland. “With a little help, a little good will and the right adjustments, you can do a lot for a very large group of people,” says Jeroen van de Koppel of HandicapNL.

“To make festivals accessible, there must be all kinds of facilities on site, which you might not think of so quickly. For example, we ensure that you can easily reach the bar, so that you don’t have to look two meters up to get a beer. to order if you are in a wheelchair,” he tells Broadcasting Zeeland.

House and techno festival Strafwerk in Amsterdam will also do more for people with disabilities. There will be special parking spaces, a rest and relaxation area and an adapted website for people with a visual impairment.
