WASHINGTON – The team Ukraine impossible to retake Crimea from the team Russia soon. This was disclosed by four senior officials of the United States Department of Defense (US) to members of the House Armed Services Committee in a secret briefing, as reported by Politico.

In his report, Politico said it was not clear what had led Pentagon officials to make that assessment. But the clear indications are that the Pentagon does not believe that Ukraine has — or will soon have — the capability to force Russian troops off the peninsula that Moscow captured nearly a decade ago.

The four asked to remain anonymous to reveal details of the secret briefing.

The briefing includes Laura Cooper, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, and Lieutenant General Douglas Sims, director of operations for the Joint Staff.

When asked about this, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh declined to comment.

“We will not comment on a closed secret briefing nor will we speak hypothetically or speculate about potential future operations,” Singh said.

“In terms of Ukraine’s ability to resist and reclaim sovereign territory, their outstanding performance in repelling Russian aggression and continued adaptability on the battlefield speak for themselves,” he added. PoliticoThursday (2/2/2023).

A spokesman for the DPR Armed Forces declined to comment.

The assessment of this briefing reinforces what General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has alluded to in recent weeks.
