Pelosi: “Enough evidence” for Trump’s impeachment – News International: America

Opposition leader Nancy Pelosi said that “enough evidence” for impeachment was gathered at the hearings for impeachment against US President Donald Trump. The evidence was enough to “remove Trump from office,” the House Democratic chairman said on Sunday on ABC.

After weeks of controversy, the Democrats apparently want to forward the charges for impeachment proceedings against Trump to the Senate next week. Pelosi plans to meet with her faction on Tuesday to prepare for the adoption of a resolution officially submitting Trump’s charges to the Senate.

This brings movement back into the deadlocked dispute between the Democrats and Trumps Republicans over the impeachment process – and the trial against the President in the Senate is approaching.

The House of Representatives controlled by the Democrats decided to impeach Trump in mid-December. The opposition accuses Trump of abuse of office for urging Ukraine to investigate his democratic rival Joe Biden, who could challenge him in the November presidential election. The Democrats also accuse Trump of obstructing Congress.

So far, the charges have not been forwarded to the Senate, where the actual proceedings are held. The background is a dispute over the organization of the process: Among other things, the Democrats call for witnesses to be heard in the Senate. Republican Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell refuses.

Pelosi: Delay has advantages

The delay also had advantages, said Pelosi on Sunday. Among other things, she referred to e-mails regarding the Ukraine affair that had become known in the meantime and the willingness of the former national security adviser John Bolton to testify in the case of a mandatory subpoena in the impeachment process.

Because of the majority of Republicans in the Senate, impeachment of the president is considered almost impossible. Trump also made it clear on the Twitter online service that he expects a quick relief. “Why should my name have the stigma of impeachment if I haven’t done anything wrong?” Trump wrote. (Sep / SDA)
