The peasants, affiliated with the Departmental Federation of Peasants ‘Tupac Katari’ of La Paz, ordered the blockade of roads in the department from 00:00 on Monday, after the Government did not respond to the demands for the abrogation of decrees 4640 and 4641, in addition to the dismissal of the Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza.

“The 20 provincial federations are instructed to participate in the indefinite general strike with demonstrations and roadblocks in the entire department of La Paz starting at 00:00 hours on Monday, January 17 of this year”, reads the statement of this organization that brings together all the peasants of the department and who are related to the Government of Luis Arce.

Arce promulgated the two controversial decrees that entered into force on January 1, but pressure forced their application to be postponed until January 26; the peasants preferred not to wait and put pressure on to annul the provisions.

The “provincials of the youth”, who are the children of the peasants, They also arranged to participate in this blockade in support of the Tupac Katari because they consider that the decrees “transgress the free will of each person to be vaccinated or not against the Covid-19 virus. Clarifying, in addition, that the demand for respect for their rights is not against vaccines, ”says the young people’s statement.

In this way, parents and children from the rural area in La Paz will come out to block since Monday. The leaders affirmed that until now they had not been summoned by the Government.

Meanwhile, the authorities were waiting to receive letters from the peasants requesting meetings to explain the scope of the two decrees.

According to the disposition of the peasants they will block the three access roads to La Paz, to Oruro, Desaguadero and Copacabana.

To reinforce their measures, the peasants they summoned all the organizations that oppose the compulsory nature of carrying the vaccination card for general procedures or admission to public entities.
