Peak of the pandemic in Portugal will arrive only in May, predicts General Directorate of Health

The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) does not recommend isolation for people returning to Portugal from an area with active community transmission by the new coronavirus, such as northern Italy, China, South Korea, Singapore or Japan.

The order published this Friday by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) considers that “there is no recommendation for school or professional eviction, or the need for isolation” for “children, youth and adults who return from an area with transmission community support for the new coronavirus, such as Northern Italy, China, South Korea, Singapore, Japan or Iran ”.

However, DGS advises that, during the 14 days following the return to Portugal, people monitor the temperature twice a day, paying attention to the appearance of fever, cough or breathing difficulties.

It is also recommending that, in the same period, social distancing be fulfilled, avoiding the frequency of very frequented and closed places and that physical contact is avoided.

These measures, says the dispatch, are part of the International Public Health Emergency declared by the World Health Organization, at a time when “countries have increased their surveillance to quickly diagnose possible new cases of covid-19”.

Portugal today registers 76 deaths associated with covid-19, 16 more than on Thursday, and the number of infected people rose to 4,268, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health.

The epidemiological situation report in Portugal, with data updated until midnight on Wednesday, indicates that the North region is the one with the highest number of deaths (33), followed by the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (24 ), the Centro region (18) and the Algarve (1).
