Paying Tolls Won’t Use Cards Anymore, Car Rental Services Are Concerned

Jakarta

Uji Coba sistem Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) will start at the end of 2022. With MLFF technology, payment transactions on toll roads will be shorter without stopping at the toll gate first.

Implementation plan MLFF in Indonesia raises questions for car rental entrepreneurs. Vivi, a car rental company staff in Jakarta, admitted that she was still confused about the implementation of this system.

“So it’s a hassle. The problem is that we often walk, from those who usually use e-money, we continue to change the system. It should be accompanied by a solution,” he told detik.com, Monday (23/5/2022). Vivi hopes that there will be special regulations made for entrepreneurs.

Vivi said that customers at her rental company often travel out of town. This means that customers will access several toll roads, so the company will have to rack their brains to get around the new payment system.

Bob, another car rental owner believes that the government should improve the current toll service system. According to him, congestion that occurs on toll roads can be overcome by improving services without having to switch to MLFF.

Bob questioned the government’s consistency in issuing regulations. “The existing ones (toll cards) have recently had to be replaced again. The government should be more consistent in issuing regulations,” said Bob.

Although potentially confusing, Bob explained that there is actually a complete package that already covers toll fees, gas costs, and parking. However, this system is quite risky, especially if customers frequently access toll roads. “Ready or not, we have to” gamblinghave to take risks,” said Bob.

Previously, the government planned to implement cardless toll payments. The plan is implemented from the end of the year for trials and will be effective in 2023-2024. This was stated by the Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit. He said this year it will be implemented commercially and gradually.

“The 2022 trial, starting with phased commercial implementation (COD) at the end of 2022, is subject to readiness,” Danang said when confirmed, quoted Monday (23/5/2022).
