LEVERKSUEN – After a 2:2 draw in the first match at FK Karabach, Bayer Leverkusen was just a step away from elimination when it lost 1:2 in the home rematch.
The Czech national team player Patrik Schick became the hero of Leverkusen again after a week, when he saved the German team with a goal in the first match in Baku in a 2:2 draw. Bayer was still the only club from the top European leagues to remain unbeaten in the season, and its streak stretched to 37 games.
However, the match did not go well for Leverkusen for a long time. The guests took the lead after an hour, when Matej Kovář was beaten by Abdellah Zoubir. In the 63rd minute, Karabach lost the expelled defender Elvin Cafarqulijev, but almost immediately added a second goal.

Four minutes later, the Czech international scored again, this time scoring a header at the far post to send Leverkusen into the quarterfinals. Twenty-eight-year-old Schick rounded the number of goals this year to five.
Last year’s finalist AS Rome will not be missing in the quarter-finals, although the participant of the Italian Serie A lost 0:1 at Brighton, but advanced with a 4:0 home victory. Danny Welbeck scored the home team’s only goal.
