Patient Plays Saxophone During Complex Nine Hour Brain Surgery | The patient undergoes a complex 9-hour brain surgery while playing the saxophone

The patient played the saxophone the entire time during a complex nine-hour brain surgery. The incident occurred at the Paideia International Hospital in Rome in Italy. The doctors explained that it was a surgery that had to be performed while the patient was awake.

Usually in this type of surgery, patients are asked to keep talking and counting numbers to avoid falling asleep. But this patient was a musician. Known as GZ, he informed the doctors that he could play the saxophone. The 35-year-old patient played the saxophone continuously for nine hours.

Musician GZ underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. The doctor who led the surgery said that every brain is different as every human being is different. Christian Brogna said. “Waking up during surgery will help us find very precisely the neuronal networks that help with various brain functions such as playing, talking, moving, remembering and counting,” added the doctor.

The doctor added that he was very proud of his patient and that he was able to return to normal life very quickly. The patient was discharged from the hospital.
