Calvin Phillips will start a new journey in Manchester City Next season. The 26-year-old midfielder was warned to be ready to sacrifice at a new club.
Calvin Phillips on the verge of a move to Manchester City. Man City and Leeds United reported to have made an agreement for a transfer that ranges in the figure of 45-50 million pounds.
The England national team player will be projected as a replacement for Fernandinho who was released by the club this summer. He will compete with Rodri in the anchor position.
“I think it’s a move that Phillips can’t refuse. He’s now going to play the Champions League, challenging for the Premier League title and other trophies,” former Leeds player Danny Mills told Sky Sports, reported by Football365.
“He’s at a stage in his career where this is an opportunity that’s probably too good to be true, so there’s no choice. As much as he loves Leeds, he has to take it.”
Mills further said that now Phillips must be prepared with the rotation and the fact that he is not the first choice. Manchester City have a big stake in all four competitions and Phillips will have his share in the first year.
“He’s an extraordinary player. I think he’ll be in their squad, but I’ve said before that I’m not sure he’ll start every game. There’s Rodri in that anchor role, a very solid midfield too,” continued Mills.
“His first season I think he will have to try to get into the team and it won’t be easy. He will still play 20+ games next season, a bit like Raheem Sterling last season. Have to accept that at Manchester City, you are going to be a team player from time to time. time.”
