A large number of organizations support the protest. Among them are left-wing parties, trade unions and environmental organizations.
The housing protest is the start of various actions across the country. The residential revolt in Rotterdam will follow on 17 October.
The housing crisis is seen as one of the biggest social problems of this time. There is a shortage of around 300,000 homes, there are years of waiting times for social housing and owner-occupied homes are regularly outbid, so that less wealthy buyers have little chance.
