Became mayor in 2018 after succeeding Gérard Cosme, Laurent Baron leaves – with 49.50% of the votes – favorite for the second round, which will be organized on Sunday December 12. “I would have liked the turnout to be higher but, unfortunately, it’s always more difficult to get voters to come during a by-election,” notes the former mayor, who says he is “satisfied” that nearly of one out of two voters who made the trip voted for him.

This Sunday evening, several socialist elected officials from the department, including the president of the departmental council, the mayors of Lilas and Pantin came to support him during this election which opposed six lists, with candidates for the most part already present the year past.

Two other qualified lists

Behind Laurent Baron, the citizen list led by Grégoire Roger gathered 20.98% of the vote. A third list qualified for the second round with 12.05% of the votes: that of Delphine Debord (LFI), the candidate behind the appeal presented to the administrative court of Montreuil, which had canceled the elections.

But as in 2020, the big winner of the ballot remains abstention. Only 37.42% of some 9,000 voters turned out to vote. Even less than last year, since at the time 42.04% of voters had participated in the ballot, organized at the very beginning of the health crisis. Laurent Baron had succeeded in being elected in the first round, by a short margin, with 50.19% of the vote.

“Now, we will do everything to come together with all the lists that have arrived behind us”, launches Grégoire Roger. “It is the only solution to succeed in changing the town hall. We don’t want old-fashioned politics, which repels citizens and keeps them away from political life, ”continues the man whose citizen list is not supported by any party.

Round 1 results: Laurent Baron (PS) 49.50%, Alexandre Beneteau (without label) 5.73%, Delphine Debord (LFI) 12.05%, Grégoire Roger (without label) 20.98%, Alexandre Saada (MoDem / LREM) 9 .49%, Patrice Zahn (Labour struggle) 2.23%.
