The reformed parish of Thun owns an apartment building with 10 apartments on Obermattweg 3A in Gwatt. Built in 1968, it is now in need of major renovation. For this purpose, the Small Council of Churches applied for a loan of 2.15 million Swiss francs to the church parliament (Great Council of Churches), which met on Monday evening in the city church. “We want to generate an appropriate return in the future,” said the church councilor, Peter Greuter, who is responsible for the building industry.
He spoke of a return of a good 3 percent or 50’000 up to 60’000 francs, which can be expected annually as income for the church treasury. The renovation, which also includes an energy-saving heating system, is to be carried out within four months from spring 2022. Then the house must be cleared, said Greuter. The tenants were informed about this in August 2020, and many had expressed a wish to return in view of the “moderate rent increase”. Greuter spoke of about 1500 instead of the previous 1000 francs for a four-and-a-half-room apartment on Obermattweg 3A.
