Paris in the lead ahead of Grenoble and Bordeaux

With an average price of 5 euros to park one hour in the street, Paris is at the top of the French ranking established by ZenPark. The capital also stands out with the highest amount for an FPS (post-parking package), which replaces the old fines in the event of non-payment.

With today’s fuel prices, your car can cost you dearly when it’s in motion. But the note can also be salty when it is motionless, well parked in the street.

The first hour at 5 euros on average in Paris

Classification; compiled by the shared car park specialist Zenpark, lists the French cities where it is the most expensive to park on the road. Unsurprisingly, Paris is in the lead with an average price for 1 hour of 5 euros. You have to pay 6 euros to park for one hour in Zone 1 (from the 1st to the 11th arrondissement) and 4 euros in Zone 2 (from the 12th to the 20th arrondissement).

To complete the podium, we find Grenoble at a good distance, with 2.5 euros for an hour, and Bordeaux, at 2.15 euros.

Be careful, we are talking here about the average price for one hour of parking, no more. Indeed, since the implementation of the reform of on-street parking in 2018, cities can set their own pricing and the associated fine (the famous FPS, for “post-parking package”), with a progressive rate : the longer you stay parked, the higher the rate per hour, in order to encourage you to free up the space.

Up to 30 euros per half hour in Grenoble

To take the example of Paris, in Zone 1, the rate is 6 euros per hour for the first two hours. But it takes 24 euros for 3 hours, or a third hour at 12 euros! And it keeps increasing: count 15 euros for the fourth hour, 18 euros for the fifth and sixth. If you stay parked for 6 hours in Zone 1 of Paris, you have to count a staggering (but very real) price of 75 euros, the amount of the FPS (and therefore the amount to be paid if you are fined for non-payment or exceeding the expected time).

On his blogZenpark details the price of parking for the top 10 French cities, according to the type of zones or lanes.

To limit long-term parking, Grenoble displays, for example, a rate of 1 euro per minute beyond 8 hours of parking in the green zone, but with a total time limited to 8:30 a.m., it is therefore necessary to count on a maximum price of 40, 50 euros (10.50 euros for 8h + 30 euros for the last half hour).

Also in Grenoble, in the orange and purple zones, parking for more than 3.5 hours is prohibited (with the risk of the vehicle being kidnapped).
