PARIS 2024: The Côte-d’Or is a candidate for the passage of the Olympic flame

Labeled “Land of Games 2024”, the Côte-d’Or wishes to be an Olympic torch relay for, as François Sauvadet indicates, “to make our young people want to get involved in a sport and to bring together the values of Olympism ”. Updated with the Department’s press release.

Press release from the Côte-d’Or departmental council of December 29, 2021:

François Sauvadet, President of the Departmental Council of Côte-d’Or, has officially applied to host the Olympic flame for the Paris 2024 Games. The objective is to honor the sports movement, in particular volunteers, to promote the vitality of our territories and to uphold the values of Olympism. Here are the reasons which motivated this candidacy.

The Paris Games are also being prepared in the departments and I would like the Côte-d’Or to be at the rendezvous of the 2024 Paris Games. The Department was one of the first communities to obtain the “Terre de Jeux 2024” label. », Rewarding the work accomplished, with our partners, to develop access to sport for all, everywhere in Côte-d’Or. The Côte-d’Or will also be a land of welcome during the 2024 Games since 4 cities – Semur-en-Auxois, Beaune, Chenôve and Dijon – have been selected as preparation centers for the Olympic Games.

Sport is also an important element in the living together of the Côte-d’Oriens, it creates social ties, it animates our territories. Thanks to a sporting offer present everywhere and accessible to all, our territory has more than 3,000 sports facilities at the service of more than 120,000 licensees, or ¼ of the population of Côte-d’Or! And it mobilizes many volunteers who are real linchpins of clubs and committees.

Yes, the Côte-d’Or is a land of games, the Côte d’Or is a land of sports. And at the Department, we believe in the values defended by athletes and we are convinced that they can become an inspiration for all of society.

For these reasons, I wanted the Côte-d’Or Department to be a relay department for the Olympic torch, a multi-millennial symbol of peace and rallying around sporting values, which will travel through France a few days before the opening of the Games. Olympics and Paralympics, the world’s most prestigious sports competition.

I hope this event will be an opportunity to thank and honor all the volunteers whose commitment is exemplary, but also our athletes, whether they are amateurs or professionals, to make our young people want to participate. get involved in a sport and bring together the values of Olympism, surpassing oneself, the taste for effort, work and team spirit. Values that we share!

President Sauvadet and President Estanguet during the Assises des Departements de France in Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain) on December 2: on this occasion, President Sauvadet welcomed the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Games and was signed the partnership between the Assembly of Departments of France and the Organizing Committee for the 2024 Paris Games for the operation “The Departments relay of the Olympic torch”.
