Parents Are Asked to Check KIA Book If You Forget Child Vaccination or Missed

The MCH handbook also contains a schedule for children to vaccinate

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Government Spokesperson for Covid-19 and Ambassador for New Habits Adaptation Reisa Broto Asmoro asked parents to check the maternal and child health book (KIA) if they forget that their child has received any type of immunization or even missed it. This is because all health facilities (faskes) use this book.

“For all parents, if there is a vaccine for their child that has not been given or has been forgotten, it can be opened again KIA book then check what is actually missing. This will make it very easy because all health facilities are using this book,” he said at a virtual conference, Monday (8/8/2022).

He added that the MCH book also includes a schedule for when children need to get vaccinated again. Reisa further reminded that this vaccine is important because it is to prevent extraordinary events (KLB) and outbreaks.

He added that this vaccination can be used as a preventive measure against diseases that can be prevented by immunization (PD3I). For example, such as measles with high fever, spotting, coughing and colds. Then, he mentioned rubella, which has flu-like symptoms but is dangerous if it occurs in pregnant women because this virus causes the baby in the womb to experience organ damage such as brain defects, hearing loss to polio which not only causes disability but can also cause death, even the proportion is 5 up to 10 percent.

On the same occasion, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Mohammad Syahril admitted that Covid-19 had caused immunization coverage not to meet the target because people avoided health facilities.

“In fact, immunization is useful to protect the children of this nation so that diseases (due to not being vaccinated) can be prevented,” he said.

For this reason, after Covid-19 begins to subside, his party is committed to pursuing basic and mandatory vaccines for children. Syahril explained that the government had actually made two stages to catch up with the basic immunization coverage that had been left behind.

First, the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN) which starts in May for outside Java-Bali islands. This effort was carried out for one month. Then in August it is being held BIAN especially the island of Java-Bali. He added that there were two things to do with BIAN.

“That is catch-up and additional immunizations. The catch-up immunization is giving vaccines to those who have not received it according to their age between the ages of 12-59 months. Or those who are not yet complete,” said Syahril.

He mentions the Oral Polio vaccine four times, Injectable Polio once, and DPT-Hb-Hib (Pentabio) three times. As for additional immunization such as the Measles Rubella vaccine is targeted at the age of 9-59 months.
