Paradise Hotel, Henrik Bach Mortensen

– You have to be able to be funny without old shit expressions like this.

Podcast «110% Paradise» deals every week with what has happened inside the reality hotel lately, and in this week’s episode there will naturally be enough talk about theme of the week – pride.

– Shall we talk about the ham rider who comes in? says one of the three presenters an hour into the episode.

Further on in the podcast, expressions such as “pillow breaker” and “butt rider” follow. The newcomer will not find it “Paradise” participant Henrik Bach Mortensen (25) seg i.

He does not mind reality participants being harassed in the podcast, but reacts to the wording.

“110% Paradise” has through so far 87 episodes talked loosely and freely about the events inside the “Paradise Hotel”. According to iTunes, the podcast is produced by “Jazze med gutta”, and is led by the three presenters Tara, Ida and Eirik.

The podcast has nothing to do with TV3 or the production.

“Old shitty expressions”

On Wednesday night, Mortensen shared a longer Instagram story where he addresses the problems surrounding the wording.

The 25-year-old from Mosjøen tells Nettavisen that he does not necessarily react on behalf of himself.

– For my part, I am sure of my identity and myself, but we have all been young once. I myself have worked with young, queer people in a vulnerable situation, and words and expressions like this can help to push them further down.

– And we who are adults must be able to keep ourselves too good for it, Mortensen says to Nettavisen.

He admits that he himself would probably laugh and let it go if only he was to hear the podcast, but thinks it is important to be a little extra careful when you have young listeners.

– There are many young people who watch “Paradise Hotel”, and then they also seek out other media where the program is mentioned. So I’m pretty sure that the podcast also has young listeners, so then you have to be able to be funny without old shitty expressions like this, says the 25-year-old.

– How much should we endure?

Mortensen points out that it is difficult to set a limit for when it is dangerous with such expressions.

– I put it at the forefront with the Instagram story, where I mention violence, among other things. But many streams are small. We have a long way to go in society before we have total equality, he states.

Mortensen says that he has received both positive and negative reactions to the Instagram story, where the negative is that some ask questions about how much to care about and where the line goes. Mortensen himself admits that he in a way agrees, but points out that society has a long way to go.

– But at the same time, how much should we endure? he asks.

Will bring up the topic again

Eirik, one of the presenters in the podcast, tells Nettavisen that they understand that the jargon can be perceived as unfortunate.

– We apologize to those who feel hit. We acknowledge the criticism Henrik directs at us, and would like to point out that it has never been our desire to offend anyone, he says.

Mortensen, for his part, can say that he received a message from those involved shortly after he shared his thoughts.

There they write, among other things, that they find it sad to hear that he experiences their vocabulary in that way and that they have thought that the “meaty” tone shines through in the podcast.

– For most people, it probably does, even for me, but for some it may be enough. Not everyone understands that it is meat, Mortensen tells Nettavisen.

The host tells Nettavisen that he himself is gay, and wanted to use the terms in a self-ironic way. However, he acknowledges that this may not be clear enough in the episode.

– The vocabulary is also an attempt to disarm the words, take back the power they hold over us in the LGBTQ + community and point a laughing finger at the homophobes in society. Because if we can not laugh at the homophobes, then what can we laugh at? he asks.

He can also tell that there is already a new podcast episode where they address the topic, in addition to the fact that they have invited Mortensen to a chat about the topic in general and the criticism he directs at them.

Mortensen appreciates the measures they take:

– I always cheer for people to make up for it, he says.
