Paolo Rossi died, farewell to the 1982 world champion footballer – Corriere.it

Terrible news, arrived shortly after midnight. Paolo Rossi died at 64, the gentle hero of 1982 world champion Italy, the one who beat Zico’s Brazil and gave the country the world dream. The announcement of his death came from the Instagram profile of his wife Federica Cappelletti.

At the 1982 World Cup, Pablito also won the title of top scorer, and, in the same year, he also won the Golden Ball.

In 2004 he was included in the FIFA 100, a list of the 125 greatest living players, selected by Pel and FIFA on the occasion of the federation’s centenary.

Together with Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri he holds the Italian record for scoring in the World Cup at 9 goals, and was the first player (equaled by Ronaldo alone) to have won the World Cup in the same year, the title of top scorer of this last competition and the Golden Ball.
