Pandora Papers: NAPK started data verification

The declarations of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the Security Service Ivan Bakanov should be checked by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. The verification will take into account data from the investigation by The Pandora Papers.

The inspection is scheduled and will be carried out in accordance with the order of priority. The results of the verification of the presidential declaration should be made public on October 18, said the head of the institution, Alexander Novikov, in an interview. Radio NV.

He noted that these media are always used when checking such documents, moreover, the institution actively cooperates with journalists. The information published in the investigation, as the head of the National Agency emphasized, is no exception – it will also be taken into account when checking.

At the same time, he clarified that the Zelensky declaration began to be studied back in April 2021. Novikov added that Sergei Shefir, as the first assistant to the head of state on a voluntary basis, should not submit a declaration.

At the same time, the head of the NAPK clarified: the fact that the funds in the accounts of offshore companies are not reflected in the declaration is not a violation. Violation – non-reflection of the companies themselves, if they belong to the subjects.

Referring to Part 3 of Article 46 of the Law “On the Prevention of Corruption” Novikov noted that the declaration should only reflect objects that are registered with offshore companies, if this is property that is not used in economic activity.

“That is, the funds are not subject to reflection in the declaration if they do not belong to an individual, but to a legal entity, which are companies,” he added.

The head of the NAPC noted that the actions that took place in 2012 cannot be qualified within the competence of the institution and cannot be the basis for responsibility.
