Pandemic makes visitors lonely, 5 malls are in danger of being sold

Bandung

Five malls in Bandung are in danger of being sold. The trigger is because of the lack of visitors even though the government has relaxed the rules.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Shopping Center Entrepreneurs (APPBI) Bandung Raya Handianto Lie. He said that there are at least 5 malls in Bandung that are in danger of being sold.

“Yes, that’s more or less the case. We don’t know for certain because the data that comes in, we talk about that,” said Handianto to detikcom, Tuesday (24/8/2021).

He did not specify which malls are in danger of being sold. However, it is certain that these malls are domiciled in the Greater Bandung area.

Handianto added that the reason the five malls were threatened with being sold was due to the lack of visits. Although it has been allowed to operate during the PPKM period, he assessed that public visits to the mall are still quiet.

He said that of the 50 percent capacity set by the government, for example, visitor arrivals were still below 20 percent or around 10-15 percent. There are even malls with less than 10 percent of visits.

“In the beginning, before COVID, there were some things that didn’t go well. Coupled with this now. Yesterday, the peak of PPKM was not strong,” he said.

According to Handianto, this clearly affects the income of the mall managers themselves. Moreover, he said, the malls had the status of a trade center which were in poor condition.

“You can see for yourself the condition of the mall, especially the lower middle class ones like the Trade center. It’s like that. Because if this trade center focuses on shopping. Meanwhile, purchasing power is reduced. Then people are also afraid to come to the mall. now there are many rules, yes, the community knows how it is,” he said.

“In fact, if we from the mall manager obey us, we follow all the rules we follow. The only unfortunate thing was that malls were allowed to open but there were many restrictions. Not capacity restrictions, yes, if we don’t increase capacity, capacity is okay, but restrictions on types This business cannot be opened, now that has a huge impact on us,” said Handianto.

One of the influences, he said, is that there are still restrictions on the type of business in the mall, one of which is a playground or entertainment area. This of course affects the number of visits that have an impact on income.

“The cinema was yesterday before PPKM was allowed to open, the mall visits drastically increased and there were good films. Now PPKM is closed, you can’t open it anymore. Now it’s like this, malls now are not for shopping, different from 10 years ago. People used to shop at malls, now they are not for shopping. People hang out for sightseeing, he has money for shopping, he buys good things. But the goal is not for that, he goes out to play with children, his family invites their children to play, the parents just keep quiet. the streets, there are good things he bought. Now the children’s playground is not allowed,” he said.
