Some 485 cases of the English variant have been identified. While a mutation making it more resistant to antibodies has just been detected, should we be concerned?

AT Geneva now, 50% of Covid-19 viruses have a mutation that makes them more contagious. Dans the majority of cases, it is the English variant. This is what indicates Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), who have set up a surveillance system in order to be able to detect quickly these variants and monitor their spread. The Federal Office of Health specified on Monday that 40% of the tests carried out at the HUG – which analyze more than a third of all nasopharyngeal screenings (PCR) in the canton – concern the English variant. 485 cases have already been identified. Knowing that cit’s cas increase exponentially, the british strain should be soon dominant. If it is 40 to 70% times more contagious, there is no evidence, for the moment, of a rise severity of cases or decreased efficacy of vaccines.
