Thanks to a goal scored in the 98th minute of play, the Palmeiras club conquered their second Copa Libertadores this Saturday.
The paulista de Palmeiras group is the new queen of South America. This Saturday, at the Estadio Maracana, she conquered the Copa Libertadores 2020 by dominating her neighbor Santos FC in the final in what was therefore a 100% Brazilian final.
The meeting was very close and had a Hitchkockian end with a winning goal scored in the 9th minute of added time in the second half. A breathtaking outcome.
Breno, this unexpected hero
The winning goal was the work of a substitute. Breno rose to the far post to regain a header from a magnificent cross from his teammate Roni. An unstoppable helmet blow that ended in full skylight.
The hero of the day did not even evolve in Palmeiras two months ago. He had been loaned by the Juventus team (Brazilian D2). The achievement of the day was only his second with the Alviverde after the one against Vasco Da Gama last Tuesday.
This Breno goal was the first shot on target for Palmeiras. And this is the only other occasion that this team was in the 37th with an attempt by Raphael, passed not far from the frame. Santos wasn’t much more threatening, however. The only thrill that the “Pisces” gave was in the 77th on a long shot from Pituca.
With his success of the day, Palmeiras won his second Copa Libertadores. The first dates back to 1999 from the time of Luiz Felipe Scolari. Luiz Adriano and his teammates will now represent their continent at the Club World Cup.
On the list, Palmeiras succeeds Flamengo. And this is the second time in a row that a Portuguese coach has been crowned in this competition. After Jorge Jesus it is Abel Ferreira who is crowned.
