Palestine would have been free from the past if Sukarno had not been removed

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto believes Palestine would have become an independent country if the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, was not deposed first.

Hasto made this statement when he told about Sukarno’s love for Islamic countries which later became the PDIP culture that loves Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to this day.

“Yes, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, if Bung Karno was not removed, Palestine would have been independent long ago, that’s what we believe. Bung Karno’s love has become a culture in PDIP that we also love NU to this day,” Hasto said at the Harlah event. 96th NU which took place in a hybrid manner, Saturday (12/2).

He said that Indonesia’s role for the world had decreased after Soekarno was ousted. According to him, Indonesia’s role in the era of Sukarno’s leadership was in the international sphere, namely seeking a world free from imperialism, colonialism, to all forms of colonialism.

“We can see, indeed after Bung Karno was overthrown, the spirit of Indonesia’s leadership for the world seemed to decline playing field We are international, even independence from Bung Karno’s perspective, the world will be peaceful if it is free from imperialism and colonialism, from all forms of colonialism,” he said.

He said Sukarno’s views finally helped Algeria fight colonialism. On that basis, according to Hasto, the statue of Sukarno stands majestically in Algeria to this day.

“That’s why Bung Karno helped Algeria, even to the point of smuggling weapons, which should have been used for the liberation of West Irian to be sent to Algeria, so the statue of Bung Karno stands majestically in Algeria,” he said.

On the same occasion, General Chairperson of PBNU Yahya Cholil Staquf said the Indonesian people were not like the Nazis and Jews who prioritized nationalism in the spirit of supremacy.

According to him, the Indonesian people did not fight for their country to be like that. Indonesian nationalism, he said, is a claim to equal rights and human dignity as stated in the first paragraph of the opening of the 1945 Constitution.

“It should be remembered that our national claim is not a national claim for ourselves, which can easily fall into chauvinism like the Nazis in Germany or some Jews, who then put forward or raise the flag of nationalism in the spirit of supremacy over other nations. No,” he said. .
