Pakistani PM Office Statement: Pakistan and Iran Condemn Unjustified Violation and Pledge Dialogue for Stronger Relations

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 20, 2024 (Xinhua) – A statement issued by the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office following a meeting of the National Security Committee said that Pakistan and Iran will be able to overcome the “limited tension” between them through dialogue and diplomacy and pave the way for strengthening their relations.

The statement said that the meeting, which was chaired by Acting Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, was held following Iran’s recent unjustified and illegal violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, and the meeting addressed issues related to national security.

He added that the participants were briefed during the meeting on the political and diplomatic developments regarding the situation prevailing between Pakistan and Iran and its impact on the general security situation in the region.

Describing Iran as a brotherly Muslim country, the committee stressed that the multiple channels of communication existing between Pakistan and Iran should be used mutually to address each other’s security concerns in the larger interests of regional peace and stability.

The meeting affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international norms, reiterating its determination to deal with the threat of terrorism with an iron hand.

The meeting also reiterated that the security and safety of the people of Pakistan is of paramount importance and every effort will be made to ensure this, according to the office.
