Pakistan Election Official Resigns, Admits Election Rigging – Chief Justice and Election Commissioner Blamed

Islamabad: An election official has resigned after admitting that Pakistan’s general election was rigged. Former Rawalpindi Election Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta has resigned.

He alleged that the elections held in Pakistan on February 8 were rigged and that the country’s Chief Election Commissioner and Chief Justice were behind it. He added that he tried to win all the candidates who failed in the elections.

“I take responsibility for mistakes. The Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice have full responsibility for this. I take responsibility for all mistakes and resign. Backstabbing the country made him sleepless. Everyone involved should be punished, including the wrongdoer. I was under pressure. He even thought about suicide. But it was decided to let the public know the truth, said Liaqat Ali. He appealed to all election officials not to stand for any mistake on behalf of politicians.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a press release claiming that all the charges against the chief election officials by Liaquat Ali are false. Rawalpindi Commissioner vehemently denies all allegations. According to the Commission’s press release, no official has given instructions to correct the election results.

The official came out with the resignation announcement while Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protest was about to continue. Apart from PTI, organizations such as Jamiat-e-Islam-Fazal and Grand Democratic Alliance have also complained of election rigging.

In the elections held for 266 seats, PTI won 113 seats by contesting independent candidates. Despite being the party that won the most seats, PTI was unable to form the government and decided to be in the opposition. Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League won 75 seats and Pakistan People’s Party 54 seats. A coalition government of these two parties will come to power in Pakistan.
